A Postdoctoral Research position is open at the Center for Advanced Materials and Manufacturing (CAMM), affiliated with the University of Tennessee Knoxville, USA.
CAMM is a newly funded NSF Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (MRSEC) focusing on two major initiatives: using Artificial Intelligence to tame the complexity of quantum materials, and creating new materials that can operate in extreme conditions.
We are looking for a candidate with extensive experience in MBE growth of quantum materials. The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for the synthesis of epitaxial quantum materials via molecular beam epitaxy (MBE), supported by state-of-the-art artificial intelligence protocols. The candidate will have several opportunities to enrich their scientific portfolio by learning and eventually leading spectroscopic studies with premier techniques, such as in-situ scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy (STM/STS), photoemission (XPS/ARPES), and ex-situ transport, magnetic and other physical property measurements.
Desired qualifications:
- PhD in Physics or related discipline.
- A strong publication and research record.
- Research experience in MBE synthesis.
- Strong communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
Additional expertise in scanning tunneling microscopy, photoemission, transport and/or magnetometry measurements is a plus, although not essential. Research experience supporting the center’s AI mission (automation, active and reinforcement learning, materials informatics, data-driven materials discovery, machine learning) is also welcome.
How to apply: applicants should provide (1) a curriculum vitae, including a publication list; (2) a statement of research interests and accomplishments; and (3) a minimum of two letters of recommendation, to be uploaded at UTK-MRSEC Apply. Review of applications began on October 19, 2026, and will continue until the position is filled.
