As participants of previous editions of the “ICMAB Schools on Frontiers in Materials Science and Condensed Matter“, we invite you to the following ICMAB School on STEM/EELS at the forefront of condensed matter.
The EELS 2025 is the 4th edition of the “ICMAB Schools on Frontiers in Materials Science and Condensed Matter”.
The school will take place on 10-11 July 2025 in hybrid format: both in-person at ICMAB and online.

About the school:
The relentless drive toward miniaturization in materials and devices drives the development of improved characterization tools with enhanced spatial and spectral resolution. The combinations of STEM and EELS enables atomic-scale exploration of nanomaterials’ physical and chemical properties.
Recent breakthroughs in detector sensitivity and monochromator technology allow high-spatial-resolution mapping of low-energy excitations (<1 eV) in real and reciprocal space. Coupled with ultrafast EELS and external stimuli, these advances reveal nanoscale dynamics in quantum materials and provide insights into reaction mechanisms in environmental cells. A fuller understanding of these excitations and electronic properties, especially near defects and interfaces, unlocks transformative advances in superconductivity, optoelectronics, energy storage, and biomedicine.
The STEM/EELS 2025 school offers a unique opportunity to learn and understand these excitations and their evolution under operational conditions from leading researchers in this field. Both in-person and online registrations are open.

Registration fee is 100€ (general) / 80€ (students) both in-person (70 max) and online (200 max).

A poster session will be held at ICMAB during the school. Please indicate if you’d like to present a poster during the registration process (a selection will be made).
