The OPERA COST Action – European Network for Innovative and Advanced Epitaxy (https://cost-opera.eu) is pleased to announce the 3rd OPERA Training School devoted to the “Physical Principles and Theory of Advanced Epitaxial Growth Methods and Devices”.
This 3rd OPERA Training School will take place between the 25 – 27 September 2024 in hybrid mode.
For on-site participants, the school will be held at the University of Cyprus, School of Engineering, Cyprus.
For online participants, specific links will be shared for attending the different lectures.
Aimed in priority towards young researchers (PhD students and young post-Docs), the courses will be focused on Theory and Experimental Principles of Epitaxy covering topics such as:
- General Principles: Surface and interfaces are important in the epitaxy and growth of 2D, 1D and OD nanostructured materials which in turn is crucial for engineering functional electronic and optoelectronic devices. An introduction and detailed description to the physics of surfaces, interface energy, lattice mismatch at the nanoscale etc. will be given to aid understanding the growth mechanisms of 2D, 1D and OD nanostructured materials.
- 2D Nano Materials: Self-organization and surface-structure; epitaxy of 2D materials; Freestanding oxide membranes, passing through Interface between oxides and van der Waals materials.
- 1D Nano Materials: Epitaxial growth mechanisms of semiconductor nanowires i.e. Si, III-V’s etc., interface physics, strain relaxation, axial and core-shell nanowires; assembly methods for the fabrication and integration of ordered arrays of nanowires; nanowires devices covering, transistors, nanowire solar cells, sensors and photodetectors.
- OD Nano Materials: Nucleation and growth mechanisms of metal and semiconductor nanoparticle and quantum dots.
The school will be organized by the national point representative of the OPERA COST ACTION in Cyprus, Prof M. Zervos, head of the Nanostructured and Materials Devices Laboratory in the School of Engineering at the University of Cyprus
The number of on-site participants will be restricted to 40.
OPERA COST Action (CA20116) may financially support 20 students/Young researchers for attending the training school (maximum 1000 € for traveling and 200 € of daily allowance covering accommodation and daily expenses). For applying, please complete the dedicated part in the registration form.
Registration and funding application are open until August 8 by sending an email to opera-ws@clermont-auvergne-inp.fr
Both accepted and funded candidates will be announced mid August 2024.
